Commotion in the Ocean - Junior Show

What an exciting week we have had!  Last week was show week for the juniors, and we gave three amazing performances of our show Commotion in the Ocean.  Each junior class, or pair of classes, was a different sea creature.  B4 were Sea Turtles and we performed a song called Here We Go about baby Sea Turtles and a dance to the song Turtle Rock.  There were a lot of moves to remember, but we were all superstars!  The hall was decorated with pictures of sea creatures and we even had special coloured lights above the stage to make us feel like real actors!

Here are some pictures from our performances and of us dressed in our turtle costumes.  At the bottom is a video of our item from the show.  We hope you enjoy watching it!

Magic e

We have been learning about "Magic e" or "Bossy e".  Magic e makes a vowel say its name (turns the sound from short to long).  Magic e helps us to remember how to spell some words that have long vowels in them.   Here is a song that we have been singing to remind us about Magic e.

The Pout-Pout Fish

Have you heard of the Pout-Pout fish?  He is a glum, gloomy creature who spreads the dreary-wearies all over the place.  But then along comes a Kiss-Kiss fish and she helps him to cheer up.  Take a look at our amazing stories and artwork about this great picture book by Deborah Diesen.

Rocky Shore Trip

Our inquiry this term is called "Ride the Wave to the Rocky Shore".  We will be learning about the creatures that live at the Rocky Shore and about how the tides affect these creatures.  We started our tuning in on Tuesday with an exciting trip to the Island Bay Marine Education Centre.  Unfortunately the weatherman didn't remember to organise a lovely sunny day for us, so we had to explore the rock pools in the rain.  We still had lots of fun finding interesting creatures living in the rock pools.  After exploring outside we got to go inside the centre and touch lots of different animals in the touch tanks and look at the different fish in the tanks.   We saw crabs, starfish, anemones, limpets, sea cucumbers, fish, an octopus, sea horses, turtles, pipe fish, carpet sharks, eels, and lots and lots of seaweed!  See if you can name some of the creatures in our video.

Here is a short video of an Octopus we saw.  Can you work out how it moves around the tank?

Road Safety Show

Today we had a very special visitor - Ronald McDonald came to our school to teach us all about road safety.  We learned that we have to put on our seatbelt and "Make It Click" when we are in the car.  When we are crossing the road or driveways we have to remember to Stop, Look and Listen for cars and cross when it is safe.  We should never run out onto the road or across driveways without looking as there could be cars and it is dangerous.  Today is the last day of school before the holidays, so it was a good reminder for us all to make sure we keep safe in cars and around roads.

Spring writing

We have been very excited in B4 to watch the change of season from winter to spring.  We have noticed that lots of trees have blossoms on them and there are more birds chirping around our school.  The weather is getting warmer and it has been very windy.  Some of us have even seen baby lambs in some paddocks.

We thought about what Spring looked like, sounded like and felt like and we used our ideas to write some descriptions of Spring.  We also made some lovely Spring blossom trees using our fingerprints for blossoms.
